First Kingsport Credit Union was formed by the merger of the Municipal Employees Credit Union and the Kingsport Postal and Federal Employees Credit Union. This merger took place on April 1, 1999.
Municipal Employees Credit Union was formed in 1932 to serve the City of Kingsport employees and their families and other entities associated with the City. The credit union was operated from an employees desk drawer for many years. With the guidance of Harry Egan, former President of the Municipal Employees Credit Union, the credit union was given an office in the basement of City Hall. By 1980, the credit union had assets of $500,000. The credit union grew until the need for more space moved them to the Ft. Henry Drive location in 1986. Growth again spurred the move to our present location on Clay Street, and we now serve over 3300 members and have assets in excess of 21.5 million dollars.
Kingsport Postal and Federal Government Employees Credit Union was formed in the early 1950's to serve employees of area post offices and other federal government employees. The Kingsport Postal and Federal Employees Credit Union was approximately $600,000 in assets at the merger date of April 1st, 1999.
As you can see, we have some great history behind us, and all along the way, the credit union has always had its members best interests at heart. |
